Life is full of contradictions. Worcester’s inhabitants seem to have more than their share.
Mauro Depasquale WCCA’s (Worcester Community Cable Access) GM has spent two decades avoiding the appearance of political bias.
Recently he went so far as to publicly distance himself from his 33 year old son because of a letter he had published in Incity Times. Mauro Sr. emphasized that he in no way shared his progeny’s political sentiment. As GM of WCCA he’s apolitical. Really? In reality Mauro Sr. isn't apolitical. He's a hypocrite.
The fact that WCCA advertises with Incity Times escapes his purview, ignoring the fact that Rosalie Tirella (owner of Incity Times) has a reputation for bizzare behavior – death threats, libel, accusations of pedophilia, rape, attacks on the infirm, attacking anyone she doesn’t like. Which seems to be all of Worcester. Tirella went so far as to recruit local crazy Paul W. Collyer, aka Paulie Collyer, aka pauliecracker, aka BigDaddy, to stalk, intimidate and harass Claude Dorman's family. Rumor has it, he got himself a restraining order for his efforts.
Strangely Mauro Depasquale doesn’t think her (and by association Collyer's) actions might reflect adversely on WCCA’s reputation, but an innocuous letter by his son sends him into public relations frenzy. Contradictions abound in life, but more so in Mauro’s.
Did you know that WCCA buys advertising space for its programming schedule in Incity Times, earning Tirella about $4,000 annually. Why Incity Times, an 8 page bi-weekly with a monthly circulation of 600 and a website with a readership of a couple hundred isn't the proper vehicle. Advertising in Incity Times is a poor choice when the T&G or Worcester magazine have greater reach - more bang for the buck. Ya think something else in going on maybe? Yes!
And like clockwork, every January Mauro publicly trots out the poverty card in an attempt to convince the city manager he needs $600,000 to replace aging and obsolescent equipment, yet as a business manager it doesn’t dawn on him to shift those wasted advertising dollars to capital acquisitions. Still in 2010 WCCA managed to invest $50,000 in capital upgrades and have enough left over to propagate (pay Rosalie Tirella) hate speech in Worcester.
Its nothing less than ludicrous for WCCA to feign poverty considering the $900,000 in cash equivalents and $1,000,000 in real estate on its balance sheet. But that's a whole other post.
So it would seem that Mauro Depasquale really needs to reconsider using the public's money to support Rosalie Tirella's hate speech, because it really does fly in the face of everything he claims he and WCCA stands for: impartiality.
