Sure would like to be a fly on the wall during some of those off-the-record meetings of the Standing Committee on Economic Development as they commiserate. All those folks think they're pretty smart. Ole Councilor Rick Rushton with his history degree poured it on pretty thick during last years campaign - lead the city to financial salvation. I thought the City Manager was credited for saving us. But hey, that's Councilor Rick for ya.
Ya know, there oughta be a law that when decisions are made by a council committee that they issue a public report - analysis and justification and give it to the voters for comment. You'd be surprised how little they really know about the stuff they decide on. Fact is, ya can't make decisions that affect folk's lives based on anecdotes and hearsay. But they do. If you lower it, they will come. Sorry, not to Wusta they won't.
I for one would like to know Ruston & Company's rationale for wanting to raise local tax rates. Just cause someone like Beth Proko or a bunch of whiny business folks (O'Brien's Business Roundtable) make unsubstantiated claims, they take it as fact?
Again, incorporations in Wusta are up again year-over-year. Guess no one but me is watching the numbers.
