Worcester - Local First?

Looks like the Buy Local propaganda is reaching a crescendo.

Jordan Levy is frothing at the mouth, demanding that the locals buy expensive stuff from local retailers instead of shopping wisely. Begs teh question, what exactly is there to buy in Worcester that's cheaper elsewhere?

Bill Randell says Buy Local, but only from his friends at Mill St. Motors. But Bill and Vanessa shop in Holden, MA. Bill Randell espouses the concept of Buy Local, so Bill Randell flies several times a year to Florida for golf and beaches. What’s he got against the Green Hill Park Golf Course or Coes Pond? Wonder where Bill buys the beer for his package store?

State of MA Treasurer Grossman says everybody Buy Local so MA can penalize you with a 6.25% sales tax. That’s pretty smart. Don’t know where Steve Grossman vacations or shops, bet it ain't MA.

So how about Paulie Collyer, the president of the Chandler St. Business Association, wonder if he Buys Local.

Wonder how much of Paulies Jazz and Blues Festival is locally sourced?

The bands – nope. From everywhere but Worcester.

The beer – nope. Harpoon, not from hometown Wormtown Brewery.

The festival goers, they're not local. According to Paulie himself, the majority is NOT from Worcester. Um...

So do as they say, not as they do.
