Yup, ole Wusta ranks 25th nationally, 32.7% of the city's population (59,202) has a college degree. Like big freaking deal, ain't done Wusta any good.
The T&G claims its readership, some 53%, have degrees. Coulda fooled me. Those crazy commenters tell quite a story about our beloved Wusta.
Wonder how many educated readers InCity Times has? The Chief-Crazy, Rosalie Tirella, claims Wusta's smartest folks read her stuff; she's like an intellectual herself - got a high school diploma.
Let’s look at this statistically. Wusta's Population in 1970: 177k. Pop. in 2010: 181k. According to NYT degrees/resident increased 43k over 40 years.
Currently Wusta kicks out about 5k degree a year. In 1970 I’ll bet degrees awarded was about half that, so we’ll round it up, say 3k from 1970 to 1990 (20 x 3 = 60k). From 1991 to 2010, say 4k (20 x 4 = 80). Total degrees in 40 years = 140k issued.
Of that 140k, only 43k, (1970, pop. had 16k degreed folks. 2010 it's 59k. Difference, 43k) about 1,000 a year over 40 years stayed behind and built Wusta in the economically depressed city it is today.

So that means, even with all that brainpower out there Wusta can't capitalize on 59,202 resident brainiacs. What went wrong? Um... maybe its the Randell Syndrome. Bill Randell (package store CEO, slumlord COO & insurance CFO) went to BC, but he can't spell - a degreed illiterate. Wait, I've just been told Bill don't live here, but in Holden, so he don't count. My bad. Sorry Bill. But you folks know what I mean eh?
Maybe they all went into the non-profit sector?
Welcome to Wusta!
