We at Wonderland appreciate food trucks. As students we spent pockets full of cash chowing down - breakfast and lunch, 5 days a week.
So we perked up when we heard that the FTFNE Festival is making its way to grungy Elm Park. Um... why not in beautiful downtown Worcester? That's what it's there for right?
Proudly taking credit for the event is Councilor Rick Rushton, head of the Economic Development Committee.
Gotta ask. How is a food festival gonna boost Wusta's economy? Thought the job of the EDC boss is to bring brick & mortar businesses to Wusta and create jobs. So how's letting 40 transient businesses swoop-in, take folks hard earned cash and then hightail it outta town, an economic boost? Not a single job created. No taxes pocketed. Way to go Councilor Rick.
Lest we forget 2008, the year of the hot dog vendor debacle, when pro-business councilors Rushton, Germain, Toomey kicked Wustas’s entrepreneurs in the proverbials – voting against competition. I hope the contradiction is not lost on you.
And no post would be complete without a mention of ole Psycho himself. Paulie Collyer’s NOLA is coming down the pike. Don’t hold your breath Wusta - ain’t nothing new, except higher ticket prices.
Previous year’s tickets were $15 - a screaming bargain according to Collyer, but still only attracted crowds in the low hundreds. Now Collyer, (head honcho of the defunct Chandler St. Business Association) raised ticket prices to $20, moved the date to June from July in the hope of… let's see, attracting those folks who weren’t interested in NOLA anyway? Events professional eh. Geez... Wonder how many jobs he's creating?
Welcome to Wusta!
